
Waldorf University/Iowa Association of Professional Fire Chiefs Lt. Eric Hosette Memorial Scholarship
The Iowa Association of Professional Fire Chiefs are proud to announce a partnership with Waldorf University in Forrest City, Iowa in the creation of the Waldorf University/Iowa Association of Professional Fire Chiefs LT. Eric Hosette Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship provides funding for the on-line program and is intended to promote higher education for Iowa’s fire service members. Scholarship will cover up to 60 credit hours toward one online degree program offered by Waldorf University (recipient’s choice). The scholarship will be applied directly to the recipient’s tuition for up to 36 consecutive months or until the selected online degree program is completed, whichever occurs first.
The scholarship covers tuition only. The student is responsible for any other student fee(s).
One complimentary evaluation will be completed to evaluate potential transfer credits from past education and/or professional certifications (Fire, Emergency Management, etc.). Waldorf University will also evaluate military CCAF and JST transcripts, if applicable.
Eligibility Requirements
The scholarship is open to any person who is an active member in good standing of a State, County, Municipal, Community, Industrial, Tribal or Federal Fire Department located within the State of Iowa who has obtained firefighter certification recognized by the Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau.

Applicants must complete all sections of the Application. The application shall be submitted through the Waldorf University website and shall include:

Complete academic application on file with Waldorf University – (a student ID number is required on the application) You can apply here: https://waldorf.edu/apply/

You will have to upload the following documents:

A statement of employment on city/fire department letterhead.

A copy of an employment card or a letter of recommendation from the applicant's Fire Chief.

Agree to release Waldorf University and the IAPFC to use your name, story, photo, etc. on any marketing materials in relation to the scholarship.

Complete online questions answering these items: (each answer 300-800 words)

Why you believe this scholarship will be useful to you as a firefighter or a fire officer.

How your pursuit of higher education will enhance leadership in the emergency services in Iowa;

How your pursuit of this scholarship will demonstrate Waldorf’s values of service, community, critical inquiry, and lifelong learning.

An interview before the selection committee may be required.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. on February 28, 2026 with the award being made in early April at the IAPFC Spring Conference.
